THE STRUCTURE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VISUAL SHORT-TERM MEMORY AND INTELLIGENCE IN ADOLESCENTS

We investigated the correlation between intelligence and short-term visual memory in adolescents from Russia and Kyrgyzstan (n=343). We used «Raven Progressive Matrices» test to measure IQ and «Pattern Recognition memory» subtest of neuropsychological battery CANTAB to measure short-term visual memory. Mean latency of correct anwsers in «Pattern Recognition memory» test correlated with total Raven scores (r=-0,234, р=0,1) and with series A and E (r=-0,188, p=0,01 and r=-0,243, p=0,01). Thus, individual differences in short-term visual memory can have impact on individual differences in intelligence.
