Moral emotions play an important role in human moral behavior, but in the professional community there is no unanimity in the definition, differentiation and measurement of basic moral emotions - shame and guilt. This is the reason that at the present time a number of empirical studies of emotions dramatically lags behind theory. In the present work the most popular views on the definition and distinction between guilt and shame are presented, as well as TOSCA-3 is tested on the Russian-speaking sample (Tangney J.P., 2000). The study showed that the Russian version of TOSCA-3 is a reliable and valid instrument that can be recommended for use in psycho-diagnostics and psychological counseling.
Keywords: shame, guilt, moral emotions, psychodiagnostic tool, TOSCA-3.
